At first glance, it may create the impression of a ballet class, but what exactly is Barre?
Barre originated in 1940 in Germany, in a medical rehabilitation center for the recovery of injured individuals. In Romania, it made its presence known in 2015, and I had the great joy of being the first Barre instructor in the country. In addition to offering classes to clients, at the Barre Academy, we develop various training styles and teach courses for future instructors.
What exactly is Barre?
Barre is a workout routine based on postural technique, micro-pulses, and isometrics, elegantly and intensely fusing elements from ballet, kinesiotherapy, and Pilates. It’s important to note that Barre is by no means a strict set of rules or the rigor of ballet figures. It can be practiced by anyone, and the exercises can be adapted based on medical conditions, pregnancy, or fitness level.
What type of clientele is interested in Barre and to whom are Barre classes recommended?
Barre training attracts a specific clientele due to its elegant and feminine nature. Therefore, our main audience consists of women with a certain social status who desire an intimate and tranquil fitness environment, intense training, and quick results. I would say we’re talking about strong and feminine women.
Is there a routine for the exercises?
A typical Barre class works the entire body. The warm-up focuses on the upper body, followed by an abdominal section on the mat, a section at the barre, and ends with stretching.
How does the atmosphere in a Barre class compare to the atmosphere in traditional fitness classes?
The atmosphere is elegant and uplifting. You sweat intensely while maintaining a poised attitude. The dynamic ambient music, specific exercises, and high postures also have a strong psychological impact. We have received joyful testimonies about the significant contribution Barre has made in overcoming depression.
Generally, we choose to participate in a class based on the expected results. What are the benefits of Barre classes?
The benefits include postural correction, lifting the gluteal muscles, lymphatic drainage, cellulite reduction, and overall excellent toning. Clients who regularly attend classes have noticed results in just one month, particularly in the abdominal and thigh areas.
What information would be useful for those interested in becoming members?
At the Barre Academy, we offer various types of Barre classes, including Classic, ABS (intense abdominal sculpting), Tone (with weights), Intense (many pulses), Kineto, Dance, Cardio, Nepalese Yoga, and Personal Training. Memberships are based on session packages (8/12/16). We also have a designated area for children to play while their mothers exercise. I, Adriana Tempea – Kinesiotherapist & Barre Instructor, Alexandra L?z?rescu – Yoga Instructor, and Andreea Glevesanu – Personal Trainer and Balkan Taekwondo Champion, form the team of instructors. Starting in September, Lia Eliza will join us for Barre Dance, incorporating dance elements from different styles. For more information, please visit us at www.barre-academy.ro.
