The balance of feminine and masculine energies in yoga
We all have a feminine side and a masculine side within us. In Jungian psychology, this phenomenon is called ‘Animus and Anima.’
Everything contains Yin and Yang. Although they are different in their individual qualities and nature, these aspects are interdependent, creating a unified whole.
Yoga – The Passage to Femininity
You have probably heard many times that yoga awakens femininity, but what does that mean? And how can you connect with your feminine side during practice?
Masculine energy and dynamic yoga
Masculine energy is independent, analytical, creative, practical, and visionary. In fact, masculine energy represents the left side of the brain. A characteristic of this hemisphere can be explained by the phrase ‘make everything happen now.’
During more dynamic yoga classes like Ashtanga, Power Yoga, and Bikram, we can feel this energy. We engage our muscles intensely and work with the strength and endurance of the physical body. In these moments, we are working with masculine energy.
Feminine Energy and Balance Yoga
Feminine energy is self-aware, compassionate, intuitive, empathetic, truthful, creative, and progressive. When the feminine side is predominant, there is a strong connection with one’s intuition and the physical body. Femininity is a special gift.
The right hemisphere corresponds to feminine energy.
One of the goals of yoga classes is to bridge the gap between the feminine and masculine aspects. We primarily activate this energy in Yin Yoga classes.
Yin Yoga – Method of connecting with feminine energy
Yin Yoga is based on the Taoist concept of opposing ‘yin and yang’ principles that complement each other in nature. This concept was developed by Pauline Zink, combining Indian Hatha yoga practices with Chinese Taoist traditions.
Yin Yoga is an excellent exercise that helps to quiet the mind while improving mobility and flexibility. By relaxing the muscles through prolonged holding of asanas, we can go deeper not only within the physical body, working on fascia, tendons, and joints but also on a soul level, connecting with our emotions.
We can activate feminine energy even in dynamic yoga classes. Here, activation is manifested through the patience we demonstrate while holding poses, our ability to regulate breath in dynamic sequences, and accepting our bodies in poses that may not be easy to sustain.
Harmonization of energies through yoga
These energies work together all the time, unable to exist without each other, complementing and blending perfectly to maintain balance in our bodies.
During yoga classes, you can become aware of which part of your body is more active at that moment and your relationship with that energy on that particular day. To bring balance to your body, you can work with your intention, paying attention to the signs described above during your yoga practice.
These energies fluctuate, and the body feels them differently every day based on our experiences.
If you focus your attention on each half of the body, you will notice that the asanas feel different every day, offering you the opportunity to become aware of which energy you have used more, and thus rebalance yourself through the practice of yoga.
Enjoy the practice of this balancing method!
