The alarming impact of added sugars

​Added sugars are those sugars that are added into foods during the processing of foods. They include corn syrup, maple syrup, cane juice and more. Added sugars do not provide the body with any nutritional value besides calories. Natural sugars on the other hand occur naturally in whole foods such as fruits. Whole foods can have added benefits such as being rich in antioxidants and fibre.

1. Added sugars can lead to obesity

Obesity has taken the world by a storm, and one of the largest culprits for
widespread obesity is the colas and aerated drinks we consume. These drinks are artificially sweetened with added sugars namely high sugar fructose. Fructose can increase your appetite and cause resistance to a hormone responsible for regulating hunger in our body As a result, one can experience weight gain that increases the risk of obesity.

2. Added sugars can increase the risk of heart disease

Consuming added sugars can put you at the risk of developing major heart
Disease because high sugar diets can cause obesity, high triglyceride, high blood sugar, blood pressure and even inflammation. These in turn lead to the development of blocked arteries and fat deposits in our blood stream.

3. Added sugars can cause acne

The truth is that when you consume too much sugar, your blood sugar levels tend
to spike. As a result, the androgen secretion in your body increases. This leads to high oil production and inflammation. This combination of events in our bodies, can play a crucial role in developing acne.

4. Added sugars can cause Type-2 diabetes

Excessive sugar consumption over a long period of time can lead to insulin
resistance. This is because added sugar intake has empty calories which can lead to major weight gain  and his puts you at a risk of developing type-2 diabetes.

5. Added sugars increases the risk of cancer

When you consume excessive amounts of added sugar, it can put you at risk of
developing certain cancers because of the excess weight gain.
Finally, added sugars can also accelerate the process of ageing and can increase the risk of depression. Therefore, it is always better to avoid sugar as much as possible. If you are someone who loves drinking sodas, you will be happy to know that there is a healthier alternative.
